Providing quality care in an environment that promotes social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.

The older toddler age group is not only exploring with their senses, but they begin to learn responsibility, take ownership of property, and to begin processing the knowledge of colors, numbers and letters.  These children take pride in performing daily routines such as hand washing, cleaning, story time and project time.   Language and communication are key elements in their daily activities as their vocabulary increases at a rapid rate.

This is also the class in which children typically begin potty-training.  All children do develop at different rates, however, so this doesn't necessarily mean your child will be at this stage in this classroom.  We do have a bathroom adjacent to the 2-year-old room for use by the children.  The most important element to remember when potty training is consistency - what we do at school should be similar to the methods used at home.  We use a potty train sticker chart for motivation and issue a "Big Boy" or "Big Girl" certificate when potty training is completed. This may be carried over into the 3-year-old preschool classroom if necessary.

The Teacher:

Amber Dubose:  Miss Amber began her career in early childhood education at Chutes 'N Ladders in December of 2009.  She is a teacher dedicated to the children and her training.  Her creativity is a great asset to her work with the 2-year-old class.  The children enjoy learning through the art projects she crafts along with the theme for the week.

The Classroom:

Like all of our other classrooms at Chutes 'N Ladders, the 2-year-old class is set up with various learning centers around the room.  Centers include cozy reading corner, dramatic play, music, creative arts, puzzles and manipulatives, science and discovery (with pet hermit crabs), and blocks.  Here are some pictures of us enjoying our stimulating learning environment.  You can view many more in our photo gallery.
