Trike-a-thon - October 17th

During the week of October 13th, the children learned a new rule regarding bicycle safety each day during the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Trike-a-thon fundraiser.  Trike-A-Thon is a special program developed for early childhood educators and childcare centers to teach children riding safety tips while helping to continue St. Jude's efforts of eradicating childhood catastrophic diseases.  The lessons culminated on the 17th with the children practicing their safety rules via an obstacle course set up in the classroom, and playing a table top board game.   In addition to learning how to stay safe, the children also learn about helping others through gaining sponsorships from friends and family for St. Jude.  Our children raised $305 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital during this program.

Fire Safety Week - October 6th - 10th

Chutes ‘n’ Ladders Early Development Center had a special guest visit by the Charlotte County Fire Department on October 8th. The children have been learning about what to do in the case of an emergency, such as calling 911. They have also been practicing how to get out if there is a fire, and their ‘stop, drop, and roll’ techniques. The children learned hands-on about the equipment firefighters use to save lives by trying to use the hose and viewing the inside of the fire truck. They were eager to ask many questions and show off their knowledge — and, needless to say, especially loved the sirens and horns.  View our slideshow to see some pictures of this exciting event.
